511 Traveler Information System

The NC Department of Transportation recently unveiled its new 511 traveler information system to give visitors traveling in North Carolina access to detailed tourism information via telephone.

The system will provide callers with information on traffic delays on North Carolina's interstates and major highways, and will include access to the Division's 1-800-VISITNC hotline, as well as DOT's Division of Rails, Division of Ferries and Customer Service, and other transit agencies.

North Carolina's 511 system, which will be operated and maintained by the National 511 Alliance, is one of the first comprehensive statewide systems to be deployed to date across the nation. For more information, visit www.ncsmartlink.org/511.
