What is Greater Raleigh?
Greater Raleigh encompasses the 12 municipalities in Wake County from A to Z as in Apex to Zebulon. Raleigh is North Carolina's State Capital with a population of more than 350,000, while Wake County boasts some 775,000 residents as Cary is the seventh-largest city in the state.
What is the Triangle or Research Triangle?
It is a term coined to refer to the proximity of three major research universities to Research Triangle Park... NC State in Raleigh, UNC in Chapel Hill and Duke in Durham. Triangle has also been broadened to refer to the three cities Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Often today, it is used to refer to the 5-county Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill MSA, a census laborshed, or the 6-county-26 community planning region called Triangle J. Research Triangle is now also used by a 22-county group doing economic development and the 22-county A.C. Neilson Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville media coverage area.
Where is Raleigh-Durham International Airport located?
It is located in western Wake County near Morrisville and I-40, midway between Downtown Raleigh and Downtown Durham. RDU is co-owned by the Cities of Raleigh and Durham and Wake and Durham counties. It is operated by an airport authority.
What airlines fly into Raleigh?
The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (Airport code: RDU) offers service by nine major carriers (Air Canada, AirTran, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest and US Airways) and six commuters (Air Canada Jazz, American Eagle, Continental Express, Delta Connect, US Airways Express and United Express). There are international flights to London and Toronto and direct service to 36 destinations among the 450 daily flights.
