• Assisted with 41 definite bookings, for a combined estimated economic impact of $26.5 million and 92,500 total hotel room nights.

• Coordinated the community's bid for the 2006-2008 MEAC Basketball Tournaments.

• Had one-on-one meetings with sports event rights-holders and planners at the following national conventions: Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), National Association of Sports Commissions, TEAMS 2004, National Softball Association, National Soccer Coaches Association.

• Developed and debuted www.raleighsports.org, the official site of the sports event industry in Wake County.

What's Ahead

• Continue to develop and expand www.raleighsports.org, the official web site of the sports event industry in Raleigh and Wake County. Create and launch www.carysports.org, which will focus exclusively on Cary events and facilities. Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote both sites.

• Focus on GRCVB's "12 Most Wanted" sporting events.

• Support community effort to successfully host the 2006 MEAC Basketball Tournament, and help the event achieve record growth in Raleigh and Wake County.

• Work with our local partners to successfully host the following major sporting events: The NICK Soccer Tournament, the Great American Cross Country Festival, the NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup, the NCAA DIII Softball National Championship, the State Games of North Carolina, and 13 NCHSAA state championships.

• Promote new sports facilities in Raleigh and Cary to help position them for sports business.

• Cultivate new markets such as wrestling, gymnastics, lacrosse, cheerleading and "extreme" sports.

• Continue to develop and strengthen our partnerships with local cities and towns, colleges and universities, venues and facilities, and other area sports organizations, in order to best position Greater Raleigh for even more sports business in the years ahead.
