Meeting, Convention & Event Services

Overall Efforts

  • In 2003-2004, visitor services staff coordinated housing for two large events: the CIAA Basketball Tournament and the Deep South Classic.
  • The Raleigh Ambassadors all-volunteer group worked 481.5 hours at 22 Wake County special events, festivals, trade shows, sporting events, meetings and conventions.
  • Worked with Pinehurst to identify 77 Wake County properties that could offer accommodations during the 2005 US Open in Pinehurst.
  • Implemented calendar of all events including conventions, public shows, sporting events, university graduation dates, etc. and quarterly send to hotels.
  • Provided training for CIAA student volunteers.
  • Implemented a redesigned Event Services Listing and was able to offer advertisers more exposure at less cost, with total advertisers increasing from 37 to 93.

Economic impact -- $23,044,711

*Note: many groups require services for several months prior to a meeting. The Bureau provides services such as meeting consultations, housing operations, the Raleigh Ambassadors volunteer program, registration clerks, brochure distribution, unique meeting site information, tour ideas and other support.
